Budrigannews.com – According to shipping data seen by Reuters on Tuesday, Chevron Corp’s first cargo of Venezuelan crude under a U.S. license received in November has left a ship-to-ship transfer hub near Aruba for its Pascagoula, Mississippi refinery.
NYSE: Chevron as part of Washington’s efforts to encourage political dialogue ahead of a presidential election in the South American nation, received authorization from the U.S. Treasury Department to revive oil output and expand operations in Venezuela last year.
According to shipping data and documents, state-run oil company PDVSA gave Chevron the first crude cargo this month, which was loaded at Venezuela’s Jose terminal last week.
Refinitiv Eikon tanker monitoring data revealed that Chevron’s tanker Caribbean Voyager transferred the 500,000-barrel cargo of heavy crude Hamaca that it had loaded in Venezuela this week to the Malta-flagged vessel Sealeo at a ship-to-ship hub near the Caribbean island of Aruba.
The Eikon data indicate that the Sealeo will arrive at Chevron’s Pascagoula refinery on January 15.
On Tuesday, a separate Venezuelan crude cargo that Chevron had chartered for the tanker Kerala was in the navigation channel of Maracaibo Lake, where a stranded vessel and a lack of dredging are restricting ship transit.
After resuming operations at its affiliated joint ventures in December, Chevron stated that the company is focused on “operating safely and reliably” and that shipping activities in Venezuela began this month.
In a release to Reuters, it added, “We continue to conduct our business in compliance with all laws and regulations where we operate, as well as the sanctions framework provided by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control.”
