The long-awaited, years-in-the-making Ethereum merge is now just an hour away—and the stakes couldn’t be higher. The Ethereum Merge will occur when the network’s Total Terminal Difficulty (TTD) reaches 58750000000000000000000T, which is scheduled to happen at around 5:27 a.m. UTC on Sept. 15.
In what the crypto community has called the most important event in crypto history, the merge will transition Ethereum’s blockchain from a proof-of-work consensus mechanism to proof of stake, thus eliminating Ethereum mining. On Twitter (NYSE:), Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin also expressed his excitement about the event that has sparked so much buzz for months.

There are several choices for those who wish to follow the Ethereum network as it makes its historic switch to proof-of-stake (PoS) in real-time. The Ethereum Foundation has planned a live feed of the Ethereum Mainnet Merge Viewing Party at 4:00 a.m. UTC, which is around an hour and a half before the Merge’s projected time. Moreover, viewers who join two hours before The Merge will be able to “participate in a POAP art canvas,” stated the YouTube description.
Users seeking the most up-to-date countdown to the Merge can also refer to Merge prediction timings on Bordel.wtf, Google (NASDAQ:), Wenmerge.com, and Blockchain.com to keep a rolling tally of the current total Total Terminal Difficulty and a projected Merge time. Additionally, BTC.com has its own countdown.
Following the completion of the Merge, Ethereum will complete its full shift to proof-of-stake, which is projected to drastically reduce its energy consumption. However, in the lead-up to the merging event, ETH’s price hasn’t increased. At the time of writing, the second-largest cryptocurrency was trading in the red, at a nearly 1.75% dip, changing hands at $1,585.97.
