According to sources, the Beaumont refinery, which produces 369,000 barrels per day (bpd), is expected to begin operating a 250,000-bpd crude distillation unit (CDU) by January 31. This makes the Beaumont refinery the second largest in the United States.
It is the first major expansion of the U.S. oil processing industry in nearly a decade, adding the size of a mid-sized refinery. It will open on time, just as President Joe Biden has been urging refiners to produce more fuel or face penalties.
