EU may ban Twitter and warns Musk
Budrigannews.com – The Financial Times reported on Wednesday that the European Union has threatened to ban Elon Musk’s Twitter unless the billionaire adheres to its stringent content moderation regulations, launching a regulatory conflict over the social media platform’s future.
According to sources familiar with the conversation, EU industry chief Thierry Breton made the threat during a video call with Musk on Wednesday.
According to the report, Breton told Musk that he had to follow a list of rules, such as agreeing to an “extensive independent audit” of the platform by next year and avoiding an “arbitrary” approach to reinstating banned users.
Musk had previously been urged to abide by important EU regulations against online hate speech and disinformation. Didier Reynders, head of the European Commission’s justice department, had also made remarks that were similar.
