EU looking for new investments in Energy
Budrigannews.com – Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated on Monday that the European Union needs to review its budget and consider establishing a new fund for the significant additional energy investments required to wean nations off of Russian gas.
Von der Leyen stated, “The question is whether it is still fit for purpose, and a fresh look through a midterm review of the budget would open the door to the creation of a sovereignity fund.”

Von der Leyen stated that the EU’s existing funds would need to be “augmented by other sources,” but he did not specify whether this new fund would necessitate the EU taking out additional joint debt.
