Disney Explores Membership Program Somewhat Akin to Amazon Prime
By Davit Kirakosyan
According to Jessica Toonkel and Sarah Krouse from The Wall Street Journal, Walt Disney (NYSE:DIS) is exploring a membership program that could offer discounts or special perks to prompt its customers to spend more on its products and services, such as streaming services, theme parks, resorts and merchandise.
According to people familiar with the matter, this program would be similar to Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) Prime, which offers monthly/annual subscriptions for advantages such as free shipping, discounts at Whole Foods and a complementary streaming video service.
While some executives have internally referred to the initiative as “Disney Prime,” people familiar with the discussions said it won’t be the name of the program.
The discussions are still in the early stages and no information is available on its price and launch date.
