Deutsche Telekom Buys More T-Mobile (TMUS) Shares, Now Owns 48.4%
Deutsche Telekom (OTC:DTEGY) has increased its stake in T-Mobile US (NASDAQ:TMUS) after buying new shares from Softbank (OTC:SFTBY) for $2.4 billion, said the German telecommunications company.
The move increases Deutsche Telekom’s holding in T-Mobile US to 48.4% from less than 47%, bringing the company a step closer to acquiring a majority stake.
Under the terms of the deal with Softbank in 2020, the Bonn-based telecommunications company paid $101.46 per T-Mobile share for 11.8 million of its shares, and $128.68 per share for the remaining portion, bringing the average price for the deal to $113 per T-Mobile US share.
Deutsche partly funded the move using the 4 billion euros it secured after selling its T-Mobile Netherlands business.
