Decentralized social media is on the horizon (as we’ve known for a while). And nice to see in plain English the risk of large entities being captured by the state or activists. https://t.co/VbDxmggJDM

Previously, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors (NASDAQ:), tweeted enquiring his readers about the necessity of a new platform to compensate Twitter as it fails to adhere to “free speech principles”. He added that “free speech is essential for a functioning democracy”.
Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy.

Dorsey commented that the new platform should be an open source protocol funded by some foundations to advance it but not to “own” it. He added that the platform should not have an advertising model so that there would not be any scope for the government or advertisements to control it. In total, he refers to a new decentralized platform to be introduced.
While Musk showed much interest in knowing more about the idea, Dorsey continued saying that the original problem with Twitter is that it started as a protocol and it never can be a company.
He also mentioned about his efforts in including the much enthusiastic Musk on the Twitter board and how it was denied by the board.
