Crystals installed at New Year’s ball in Time Square
Budrigannews.com – In preparation for the New Year’s Eve celebration on Saturday, nearly 200 brand-new Waterford crystals were added to the ball in Times Square, New York.
Irish artisans have been designing and handcrafting replacements for the 2,688 crystal panels that make up the ball at Waterford since 1999. A new theme is chosen each year.
According to Waterford master artisan Tom Brennan at the Times Square location, the theme for this year was “Gift of Love,” which included intertwining love hearts.

“After the pandemic, we require this. We have all endured a terrible two years. We have improved as a result of what we’ve learned from it. We are surrounded by love. “We have everything,” he declared.
For the first time since before the pandemic, visitors willing to brave the cold and crowds of Times Square in midtown Manhattan to count down to the new year and witness the ball drop will not be subject to COVID-related restrictions this year.
