Concerns about Restrictions on app store access in Japan in vain
Budrigannews.com – (NASDAQ:) Apple Inc. According to a Friday report that cited sources, Chief Executive Tim Cook asked Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to think about protecting users when regulating the distribution of smartphone apps.
Apple’s App Store practices, which prohibit iPhones from using apps from third-party app stores and charge a 30% fee on payments and subscriptions, have drawn increased scrutiny.
According to the report, Cook also asked Kishida to ensure that app distribution regulations do not compromise user privacy and security.
Reuters inquired for further information, but Apple and the Japanese PM’s office did not immediately respond.
During Cook’s visit to Japan earlier this month, Apple disclosed that it had invested more than $100 billion in its Japanese supply network over the past five years.
Over the past few years, Apple’s services business, which includes the App Store, has grown at a rapid rate to approximately $19 billion per quarter.
