Comedians talk about Brittney Griner and Russian prison
By Tiffany Smith
Budrigannews.com – A new comic book from TidalWave Comics tells the story of basketball star Brittney Griner’s life, from college basketball to a Russian jail cell.
Griner is a book in the publisher’s Female Force series that tells inspiring stories about women.
On February 17, Griner was detained at an airport outside of Moscow for bringing vape cartridges containing hashish oil with her. She was then found guilty of smuggling drugs and sent to one of Russia’s most notorious penal colonies before being swapped out in December.
Griner, a two-time gold medalist at the Olympics and an eight-time All-Star in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), has stated that she intends to rejoin her WNBA team.
Before Griner’s arrest, the comic book, according to writer Michael Frizell, focused on “her growth as an athlete and person.” He went on to say that “despite not knowing much about the WNBA, I found Brittney’s story fascinating.”

Frizell aspires to make readers aware of “the person behind the headlines.”
The comic book will be available in both print and digital formats on January 18.
