Colombia has launched an investigation into Nutresa
Budrigannews.com – The attorney general’s office reported Thursday evening that a failed public offer for shares of Nutresa, the largest food processor in Colombia, had been the subject of an investigation.
The International Holding Company (IHC), which is based in Abu Dhabi, lost its bid for Nutresa shares last week because it did not receive the required number of shares.Grupo Gilinski and investment firm Grupo Sura, as well as industrial conglomerate Grupo Argos, which refused to sell their shares, filed legal challenges during the takeover bid process.
According to a statement released on Thursday night, the office of the attorney general received two criminal complaints regarding civil lawsuits filed by Grupo Sura and Grupo Argos, “which could configure acts of judicial corruption.”
“The attorney general’s office ordered the investigation through the Specialized Directorate against Corruption” was added to the statement. “Once the situation, its complexity, and the seriousness of the facts were known.”
Two members of Grupo Sura’s board were told by Colombia’s Superintendency of Companies, which is in charge of inspecting and supervising businesses, not to participate in decisions about the sale to IHC before the takeover bid was finished. The officials then resigned.
Since November 2021, Nutresa has been the objective of a progression of threatening proposals from Grupo Gilinski and IHC.
Grupo Empresarial Antioqueno (GEA), the largest South American conglomerate, is made up of Colombian businesses like Argos, Sura, and Nutresa.
