Investing.com — The Biden administration is set to announce on Friday that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control will end a requirement making travelers test negative for COVID-19 before entering the country, according to CNN, citing a senior White House official.
CNN also reported the decision would come into effect at midnight on Sunday for air travelers heading to the U.S.
The official told CNN that the CDC will review the move in 90 days and could put the rule back in place if necessary. The measure was first instated in January 2021.
The travel industry – including U.S. airlines – has been lobbying the White House to lift the requirement, saying many Americans are choosing not to travel over fears they could test positive for COVID and become marooned abroad.
