Chinese aircraft carriers forced Japan to take fighter jets into the sky
Budrigannews.com – In order to monitor China’s Liaoning aircraft carrier and five warships that carried out naval maneuvers and flight operations in the Pacific, Japan stated on Monday that it had scrambled jet fighters and sent aircraft and warships over the course of the past two weeks.
On December 16, the Chinese naval group, which included missile destroyers, sailed into the Western Pacific from the East China Sea between the main Okinawa island and Miyakojima island, according to a press release from Japan’s Ministry of Defence.
The ministry added that the Chinese carrier made more than 300 take-offs and landings of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters before returning the same way on Sunday. The ministry did not report any incursions into Japanese airspace or waters.
The most recent large-scale military drills close to Japanese islands come after Japan announced it would double defense spending over the next five years in an effort to deter China from using its military to push territorial claims in the region, including against neighboring Taiwan. Although China has previously carried out operations that are similar, one of those was in May.
Additionally, Japan reported that, for the first time, it had observed the high-altitude Chinese WZ-7 drone flying close to Miyakojima on Sunday and again on Monday.
