China’s Zhengzhou transfers an employees to other cities
Budrigannews.com – The capital of Henan province in China, Zhengzhou, also known as “iPhone City,” relocated 870 workers to a hub 230 miles away in a neighboring province without informing them of the measure to reduce Covid transmission.
The authorities of the city issued a statement on Saturday on their official WeChat account, stating that the workers were transported to Xuzhou in Jiangsu province early on Friday “without prior communications.”It did not specify whether any of the individuals had positive tests.
After videos of hundreds of workers engaging in violent clashes sparked by resentment over unpaid wages and concern about virus infections surfaced on social media, Zhengzhou, the location of Apple Inc.’s largest iPhone manufacturing facility, rose to global prominence. Foxconn Technology Group, Apple’s primary global production partner, began offering 10,000 yuan (about $1,395) to employees who wanted to leave.
According to the Xuzhou city statement, the majority of the individuals have since been relocated to other locations via a so-called closed-loop arrangement. The remaining individuals were placed in yet another pandemic bubble system that restricts outside contact. It added that all of the individuals were former employees of a “key enterprise” in the airport economic zone of Zhengzhou, but did not specify which enterprise. Saturday, a representative from Foxconn did not respond to inquiries after business hours.
In an effort to contain an expanding outbreak, Zhengzhou officials announced earlier this week that the city’s main urban areas would be locked down for five days.Even though Foxconn’s district was not included in the so-called “mobility controls,” the iPhone plant is still subject to lockdown-like movement restrictions because it is in a high-risk area.
According to Xuzhou, the risks posed by local Covid are manageable. As a result, citizens are no longer required to present a negative test result within 72 hours in order to enter public places.
