OTTAWA (Reuters) – The Canadian government said on Wednesday it fully respects Mexican sovereignty and has no intention of intervening in its internal affairs, after its ambassador criticized a planned Mexican judicial reform saying it could impact investment.
A spokesperson for Global Affairs Canada told Reuters that while Canadian investors had expressed concern, Canada “deeply values its relationship with Mexico, a key ally, neighbor and friend.”
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Tuesday he had paused the government’s relationship with the U.S. and Canadian embassies in the country over their criticisms, which he calls disrespectful to his country’s sovereignty.
