Business sentiment in Germany rose in November
Budrigannews.com – According to a survey released on Monday, German business morale increased more than anticipated in December as Europe’s largest economy approached the end of the year with a better outlook despite the energy crisis and high inflation.
According to the Ifo Institute, the business climate index increased from a revised reading of 86.4 in November to 88.6 in December.
An analyst survey conducted by Reuters had predicted a reading of 87.4 in December.
After six consecutive declines, the indicator that measures how businesses assess their current situation also saw a larger-than-expected rise in December, rising to 94.4 from a revised 93.2 in November. A Reuters poll of analysts had predicted a reading of 93.5.
Clemens Fuest, president of Ifo, stated that German businesses are optimistic heading into the holiday season.
In recent weeks, there have been more and more indications that the German economy may be able to avert the worst of an economic downturn brought on by a drop in Russia’s energy supply following the invasion of Ukraine.
As energy costs fell, inflation fell to 11.3% in November from 11.6% the month before.
