BRASILIA/SAO PAULO (Reuters) -Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has picked central bank monetary policy director Gabriel Galipolo to be the next governor of the institution, replacing Roberto Campos Neto whose term ends in December, Finance Minister Fernando Haddad told journalists on Wednesday.
“It is a great honor, a significant responsibility, and I am very pleased,” Galipolo told journalists in Brasilia alongside Haddad.
Galipolo’s appointment has to be confirmed by the Senate Economic Affairs Committee, and later in the full Senate before he takes on the new role starting in January.
