Brazilian President won’t cancel planned reforms

Budrigannews.com – Vice President Geraldo Alckmin stated on Monday that Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva does not intend to revoke the market-friendly labor and pension reforms that Congress passed in 2017 and 2019.
Alckmin’s remarks were in line with those of Rui Costa, Lula’s Chief of Staff, who earlier this month ruled out the possibility of revising the economic reforms implemented by the previous administration.
When ministers suggested reexamining the reforms, Costa and Alckmin were lined up to patch up communication issues during the early days of the leftist administration.
“Lula has been stating that neither the pension nor the labor reform will be revoked. The vice president said, “What you can do is perfect them” at an event hosted by the industry group FIESP in Sao Paulo, referring specifically to employees of mobile apps.
Alckmin, who is also Lula’s minister of industry and trade, said that the government would now try to get tax reform in the biggest economy in Latin America.
Alckmin stated, “Our objective is to proceed with the third reform – the tax reform after pension and labor reforms.” He stated that the Lula administration intends to eliminate the industrial product IPI tax. The industry depends on the tax reform.”
