Budrigannews.com – The White House stated on Monday that despite his supporters storming Brazil’s Congress, the Brazilian government has not made any official requests to the United States regarding the status of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser, told reporters that democratic institutions in Brazil appeared to be holding up while he and President Joe Biden attended a summit between the United States, Mexico, and Canada in Mexico City.
He claimed that officials from the United States do not have direct contact with Bolsonaro, who is thought to be in suburban Orlando, Florida.
Sullivan stated that he expected Biden to discuss the recent events in Brasilia with the new Brazilian president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, but did not know when that would be.
He stated that the United States is of the opinion that Brazil’s democracy is “strong, resilient, and will come through this.”
He stated, “We have expressed confidence, because we believe it, that democratic institutions in Brazil will hold, that the will of the people of Brazil will be respected, that freely elected leaders in Brazil will govern Brazil, and that these people who have assaulted the instruments of government in Brasilia will not be deterred or knocked off course.”
Monday, Bolsonaro was admitted to a hospital in Orlando, Florida, with abdominal pain, according to O Globo.
Sullivan stated that Washington had not received any official inquiries regarding Bolsonaro’s status in the United States and that he lacked personal information.

He stated, “Of course, if we did receive such requests, we would treat them as we always do, and we would take them seriously.”
