Bollettieri one of the great tennis coaches has died at the age of 91
Budrigannews.com – Former student Tommy Haas led tributes to the “one of a kind” American coach Nick Bollettieri, who passed away at the age of 91. Bollettieri was a larger-than-life coach whose famed Florida tennis academy changed the face of the game by producing some of its greatest players.
Bollettieri, the son of Italian immigrants, joined the US Army and dropped out of law school to become a coach. He helped launch the careers of prominent athletes like Andre Agassi, Serena and Venus Williams, Monica Seles, and Maria Sharapova.
He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2014 as a pioneering mentor who worked with ten world number one players.
Indian Wells tournament director and former world number two from Germany, Haas, wrote on Instagram, “Thank you for your time, knowledge, commitment, expertise, the willingness to share your skill, your personal interest in mentoring me and giving me the best opportunity to follow my dreams.”
“You were truly one of a kind, a dreamer and a doer, and a pioneer in our sport.”
The 2013 Wimbledon runner-up from Germany, Sabine Lisicki, stated that Bollettieri had “shaped the game of tennis.”
“You have provided a workplace where so many children can pursue their dreams.demonstrating to them that you know everything there is to know and that anything is possible.I was lucky to be one of them,” Lisicki composed on Twitter.
“I will miss you very much!”
Angelique Anne Bollettieri had made the announcement on Facebook (NASDAQ:) last month that her dad was approaching the end.
“Dad is getting close to moving to the next location.Please keep him in your thoughts so that you can have a wonderful trip and peaceful departure.She wrote, “Daddy, we love you.”
The media in the United States reported that Bollettieri died on Sunday.
American Brian Gottfried, who ranked third in the world in 1977, was one of Bollettieri’s first successful students.
The following year, Bollettieri established the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy.In 1987, the International Management Group purchased it.
