Boeing (BA) Preparing to Increase 787 Dreamliner Production – WSJ
By Sam Boughedda
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal late Wednesday, Boeing (NYSE:BA) is planning to expand the production of its 787 Dreamliner once U.S. air-safety regulators give the go-ahead.
Citing sources close to the matter at the Farnborough International Air Show, The WSJ stated that Boeing expects deliveries to resume as soon as this summer, and it will likely begin producing three jets per month, an increase on the current one per month rate. They are planning to move to five per month six months later.
After various production and regulatory issues, Boeing has fallen behind Airbus in recent years. However, the WSJ said orders announced at the airshow had given a sense of Boeing’s momentum.
Despite its popularity among airlines, the Dreamliner plane hasn’t been delivered for most of the past two years following numerous production defects.
If regulators give Boeing approval to resume deliveries, it will provide a significant boost to the company.
Boeing shares climbed 1.8% Wednesday.
