Boeing 737 MAX models can get a certificate
Budrigannews.com – Legislators in the Senate and House are intensifying their discussions regarding a compromise measure to allow Boeing (NYSE:) to get its two 737 MAX models certified, according to numerous media reports.
The Democratic chairwoman of the Commerce Committee, Washington’s Senator Maria Cantwell, suggested that Boeing include an additional sensor system, which is currently being tested on the Max 10 aircraft.
According to Reuters, Boeing would have to pay for the mandatory safety enhancements retrofit for the MAX planes that are currently in use.
“We do want to push for safety enhancements and we’ll see what happens,” Senator Cantwell told Reuters.
“Safety should be the focus, not a date, safety.” Some individuals just want a straight extension.
There is no deadline for the MAX 7/10 certification in Cantwell’s proposal. Additionally, the senator intends to expedite the passage of this bill through Congress.
Even though the proposal is opposed by the families of passengers who perished in the crashes of two 737 Max planes in 2018 and 2019, Bloomberg News also reported on progress in the talks.
Boeing faces a multibillion-dollar redesign of the 737 flight deck and additional delivery delays for its two Max models if it misses the deadline on December 27.Dave Calhoun, the CEO of Boeing, said that if Congress doesn’t give the deadline an extension, the company could scrap plans to make Max 10.
