Bodies of migrants found in Poland

Budrigannews.com – After three bodies were discovered in an area where thousands of migrants from the Middle East and Africa have been trying to enter the European Union, Polish officials searched wetlands on the border with Belarus on Friday.
On January 7, the death of a Yemeni physician close to the border, where winter temperatures frequently dip below zero, was confirmed. Although the identities of the two others, who were discovered on Thursday and Friday, have not yet been established, Grupa Granica, a coalition of non-governmental organizations assisting border crossers, believes that they were most likely migrants.
According to a spokesperson for the Border Guard, Anna Michalska, soldiers on the border had informed them that others might have perished.
“We are searching the area because there may be additional bodies. The search involves the army, border guards, and police, she stated.
Since Belarus, a close ally of Russia, opened travel agencies in the Middle East in August 2021, offering a new unofficial route into Europe, the EU said, migrants have been flocking to the border.
Migrants continue to travel to Belarus in the hope of reaching Poland, a member of the European Union that also houses over 1.5 million refugees from Russia’s nearly one-year invasion of Ukraine.
In an effort to stem the flow, Warsaw constructed a 5.5-meter-tall steel barrier with electronic sensors at its border with Belarus, but people continue to come.
This year, the border guard has recorded 530 attempts to cross from Belarus, and Grupa Granica has assisted 84 people and received 121 calls for assistance.
The journey has been fatal for some.
According to the Border Guard, 14 people have died on the Polish side of the border since August 2021. According to Grupa Granica, there were 33 deaths.
“We have received 200 alerts for missing persons.” Aleksandra Loboda, a Grupa Granica spokeswoman, told Reuters that “sometimes we find people in guarded detention centers run by the Border Guard, and sometimes we find bodies.”
