Blue Apron (APRN) Shares Surge on Deal to Buy Meal Kits Without a Subscription on Walmart.com

Blue Apron (NYSE:APRN) shares were trading more than 13% higher after-hours after the company announced it will allow consumers to buy a selection of meal kits without a subscription on Walmart.com (NYSE:WMT).
The company is the first and only meal-kit provider on the Walmart Marketplace platform, which serves millions of monthly active shoppers.
Consumers can start purchasing the meal kits today. Blue Apron is offering four meal kits that serve up to 12, with plans to expand the options in the coming months.
“Through our work with Walmart.com Marketplace, we will be able to scale our e-commerce presence and introduce restaurant-quality meals without a subscription to a new group of customers who may not have considered meal kits before,” said Dani Simpson, Blue Apron’s Chief Marketing Officer. “We are offering Walmart.com’s customer base convenient and delicious meal options that feature a variety of unique and quality ingredients. This is just the beginning, and we look forward to expanding the offering throughout the year.”
