Budrigannews.com – An altercation between two groups near a busy beach area in Hollywood, Florida, on Monday night resulted in the shooting deaths of nine people, including a one-year-old child, according to officials.
According to Hollywood Police Department spokesperson Deanna Bettineschi, the additional suspect, who was described as a Black man with dreadlocks and dressed in camo shorts and a black short-sleeve shirt, has been detained by police.
Bettineschi stated that the injured range in age from 1 to 65.
The shooting is said to have occurred close to Johnson Street and North Broadwalk, a busy pedestrian walkway lined with palm trees that spans the beach and has restaurants and shops.
The city’s beach camera live feeds show that the sound of gunfire sent people fleeing down the busy sidewalk and into the sand nearby.
Nine people had been shot when police arrived at the scene around 6:45 p.m. Eastern Time, according to Bettineschi.
According to Memorial Healthcare System spokesperson Yanet Obarrio-Sanchez, the injured were taken to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and Memorial Regional Hospital.
Bettineschi noted that one victim was undergoing surgery late on Monday, despite the fact that the spokesperson for the hospital stated that all of the victims were in stable condition.
As the investigation continues, authorities are requesting that people avoid the area.
Bettineschi stated that a center for family assistance has been established close to Johnson Street and North Ocean Drive.
“This is a place where families can go to talk to the on-scene detectives about family members and get information about their vehicles that might be at the crime scene,” says the article.
Hollywood is around 20 miles north of Miami and is home to Hollywood Ocean side, a famous traveler objective.
