Biden’s granddaughter got married, who’s the husband?
Budrigannews.com -Naomi Biden, granddaughter of US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, married on Saturday in what was the 19th time in history that the White House has been used for weddings.
The bride, 28, is the groom, Peter Neil, 25, a recent graduate of Jackson Hall, Wyoming, Law School and a lawyer who lives in the White House. He currently works at Georgetown University’s National Security Law Center. They met in 2018.
The ceremony took place on the South Lawn of the White House on a cold day when press access was not allowed.
It was attended by about 250 guests.
“It was a pleasure to see Naomi grow up, discover who she is and create such a wonderful life for herself,” she said in an interview.
“We are now proud to see her choose Peter as her husband and honored to welcome him into our family. I wish you a day full of laughter and love that deepens with each passing year,” they said.
A luncheon and wedding reception for the family followed the ceremony in the State Dining Room of the White House. An evening dessert and dance reception was scheduled.
This is the first part of a holiday weekend for Biden to celebrate his 80th birthday on Sunday surrounded by his family.
Since former President John Adams moved into the newly built White House in 1800, 18 weddings have featured families of the president and First Lady.
According to the White House Historical Society, the tradition began in 1812, when Lucy Payne Washington, sister of the first woman Dolly Madison, married Thomas Todd, a Supreme Court aide.
Glover Cleveland was the only president to marry in the White House. He exchanged vows with Francis Folsom in the Blue Room in 1886.
Naomi Biden is the daughter of President Hunter Biden’s son and his first wife Kathleen Buren.
Jill Biden’s communications director, Elizabeth Alexander, said the Biden family was “deeply saddened” to learn of the wedding activities held at the White House ” in a manner consistent with other private events hosted by the first family, and that the tradition of the previous White House Wedding Festival in the previous administration has not changed.”We will pay in a way that is consistent with the law,” he said.””
Unlike such past rituals, the festival was closed to the media.
“Naomi and Peter are asking that their marriage be closed to the media, and we respect their wishes. That’s what the couple decided,” White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Friday.
