Biden will nominate his candidates for office on Tuesday
Budrigannews.com – A White House official stated that U.S. President Joe Biden intends to renominate his choices for a number of federal positions on Tuesday. These positions include ambassador to India, head of the Federal Aviation Administration, and a member of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The selections came to a halt the previous year in the Senate, which was 50/50 Republican/Democrat, with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking ties. The new Senate meets on Tuesday.
Since January 2021, Democrats have not been able to control a majority of the five members of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which is in charge of regulating the telecommunications industry. This has prevented them from moving forward with some important priorities, such as restoring the landmark net neutrality rules that were taken away by former President Donald Trump.
Gigi Sohn, a Democrat, was nominated by Biden to fill the crucial fifth seat in October 2021. Sohn was Tom Wheeler’s senior aide when he was chair of the FCC under President Barack Obama.
Since March 31, the FAA has not had a permanent administrator. A hearing on Denver International Airport Chief Executive Phil Washington, Biden’s choice to lead the FAA, has not yet been held by the Senate Commerce Committee. After Washington was named in a search warrant that linked him to corruption allegations at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Republicans had criticized him.
Washington, who used to be the CEO of the public transportation system in Los Angeles, has denied any wrongdoing.
Billy Nolen, the top official in charge of aviation safety at the FAA, has been running the agency temporarily.
Additionally, Biden is recommending Eric Garcetti for the position of Indian ambassador.
Garcetti, who served as mayor of Los Angeles from 2013 to last year due to a term limit, is close to Biden and co-chaired his 2020 presidential campaign.
However, allegations that he ignored complaints of sexual harassment and abusive language from some of his political allies caused his nomination to be stalled in the Senate, and even some Democrats expressed concern about the matter. Garcetti has maintained his innocence.
