Biden to Attend Gun Violence Memorial Event
Budrigannews.com – On Wednesday, President Joe Biden will speak at a national vigil for gun violence victims, where he will ratchet up the pressure on Congress to support his desire for an assault weapons ban.
Since the ban on assault weapons ended in 2004, Congress has shown little interest in banning them. However, Biden hopes that the growing American outrage over mass shootings will increase pressure on lawmakers to change their minds.
Biden is expected to attend the 10th annual vigil on Wednesday night at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Washington, according to the White House.
After pushing through Congress a law that includes provisions to assist states in keeping guns out of the hands of individuals who are deemed to be a danger to themselves or others, Biden has made the ban on assault weapons a rallying cry for his gun safety agenda.
Before Republicans take control of the House of Representatives at the beginning of January, Congress remains in the hands of Biden’s Democrats for just a few more weeks. Democratic control remains in the Senate.
