Biden nominated Julie Su for post of Minister of Labor

Budrigannews.com – On Wednesday, President Joe Biden urged the Senate to quickly confirm Julie Su as secretary of the Labor Department. He praised his nominee for her previous efforts to raise wages for workers and broaden protections.
At a White House event to celebrate Su’s nomination, Biden and Su said that she had led efforts to establish and support union jobs in her current position as deputy secretary of the department and in previous labor positions in California.
Biden stated, “She has established and enforced workplace safety standards, protected trafficked workers, increased the minimum wage, cracked down on wage theft, and so much more.”
While praising the departing department secretary Marty Walsh for his pro-union work, Biden said, “I ask the United States Senate to move this nomination quickly so we can continue (to) build (an) economy that works for everyone.” Walsh was the department secretary at the time.
Su, a Chinese immigrant’s daughter, claimed to have worked for workers’ rights all her life.
Su, 54, stated, “So to all workers who are toiling in the shadows, to workers who are organizing for power and respect in the workplace – know that we see you, we stand with you, and we will fight for you.” “So to all workers who are toiling in the shadows,” she said.
Su’s familiarity with the agency and labor policy prompted the Biden administration to appoint her as department head, which was supported by progressives in Biden’s Democratic Party.
A 2013 report on her work as California labor commissioner, which she held from 2011 to 2018, found that enforcement activity increased during her tenure.
In order to become the executive director of the National Hockey League Players’ Association, the departing secretary Walsh is anticipated to leave in the middle of March.
