Biden calls for bipartisan unification for better life for Americans

Budrigannews.com – After the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, President Joe Biden of the United States urged Republican and Democratic governors to continue working across political lines to improve the lives of Americans and rebuild the economy.
Biden said during a black-tie dinner at the White House that was attended by Vice President Kamala Harris and 31 governors that the passage of laws by Republicans and Democrats on investing in infrastructure and domestic semiconductor manufacturing was evidence of “some bipartisan progress.”
After attending governors’ meetings for several days in Washington, Biden stated, “I hope we’re going to get a little bit – I’m going to try – a little bit less partisan and work on things that we can really get done to change people’s lives.”
Republicans and Democrats would not always agree, but when they worked together, it made a difference, as he stated that he was still “ready to fight, as you all are.”
Utah’s Republican governor, vice-chair of the National Governors Association Spencer Cox, noted that Republicans and Democrats “breaking bread together” at the White House was “very symbolic.”
Cox went on to say that he thought the majority of Americans wanted to see more cooperation between political parties.
He continued, “It’s hard to hate up close,” adding, “This is what is missing in our country.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican who has opposed Biden’s agenda on a variety of fronts, including gun safety and LGBTQ rights, was notable absentee from the dinner.
After the dinner, country-western singer Brad Paisley played guitar and performed his song “American Saturday Night.” He told the audience that he had changed the second line of the song “because it mentioned Russia and I don’t do that anymore” and that he had changed the lyrics.
He sang, instead: ” On the German car’s pedal, she has boots made of Brazilian leather. Behind the bar, a Ukrainian flag is displayed.
Biden’s remarks were similar to his Tuesday State of the Union address to Congress, in which he urged Republicans to help bring the nation together.
At a governors’ event on Friday at the White House, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, a Democrat who chairs the association, stated that the bipartisan laws passed last year were game changers for the U.S. economy.
He added that the “narrative that politics has gotten completely divisive” was disproved by the states’ ability to collaborate on other issues like mental health.
