Ban on sale of semi-automatic weapons in Illinois has entered

Budrigannews.com – In response to a massacre at an Independence Day parade in Highland Park last year and other mass shootings, Illinois has banned the sale of many common types of semiautomatic guns immediately.
Many types of weapons, including semiautomatic rifles and pistols with detachable magazines, that automatically load the next bullet after a shot are prohibited from being sold under the new law, which Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed on Tuesday evening. The law lists dozens of well-known gun brands manufactured in the United States.
Rapid-fire attachments and.50-caliber guns, as well as rifles with more than 10 bullets and pistols with more than 15, are also prohibited. These weapons can be kept by those who already own them, but they must be registered with the state police.
Similar restrictions have already been enacted in eight additional states and the District of Columbia. Many law-abiding Americans own guns for self-defense, hunting, and sport, according to gun owners’ rights groups, who claim that the bans violate the “right to keep and bear arms” in the United States Constitution.
In a statement, Democrat Pritzker said, “No Illinoisan, regardless of their zip code, should have to go through life fearing their loved one could be the next in an ever-growing list of victims of mass shootings.”
He mentioned the attack on the Highland Park July 4th parade last year, in which a man with a semiautomatic rifle killed seven people and injured dozens more in a few minutes, when he signed the bill.
The Illinois State Rifle Association’s executive director, Richard Pearson, stated that his organization would file a lawsuit to overturn the ban because it affects nearly 2.5 million gun owners in the state. Challenge accepted,” according to his statement.
Brady, a national anti-gun violence organization, claimed that the ban would save lives.
