Baby Trend stroller recognized as unsafe and can kill baby

Budrigannews.com – The Consumer Product Safety Commission reiterated its warning regarding the dangers of some well-known Baby Trend strollers and harshly criticized the stroller manufacturer for making “a clearly inaccurate statement” regarding the safety of its products and the agency’s position on them.
The CPSC and Baby Trend issued a warning to consumers on Thursday regarding the Sit N’ Stand Double and Ultra strollers’ potential for neck or head entrapment (model numbers beginning with “SS76” or “SS66”). According to the statement, a life-threatening injury could occur between the armrest or seat back and the pivoting front canopy.
The joint notice was issued following the asphyxiation of a 14-month-old child whose neck became entangled between the armrest of a Baby Trend Sit N’ Stand double stroller and the canopy tube. The canopy and armrest were not clearly visible to the toddler’s father, who was nearby.
In a separate incident, a 17-month-old child also sustained neck injuries.
However, Friday Baby Trend stated in a statement that the strollers are “completely safe when used as intended.” Additionally, Baby Trend stated that it joined the CPSC “out of an abundance of caution.”)
According to the company’s statement, “This tragic and exceedingly rare accident could have been completely avoided if the young toddler had not been allowed to climb and play on the stroller, which was not being used as intended at the time.”
The CPSC responded by reiterating its warning, which stated, “If a non-occupant child climbs on the exterior of the stroller or when a child in the front seat of the stroller is not securely restrained in the seat using all five points of the harness, the space in front of and behind the strollers’ pivoting front canopy can entrap a child’s head or neck.”
The warning continued, ” The entrapment could result in death, serious injury, or unconsciousness.
Consumers were advised by the CPSC and Baby Trend not to allow children to play on the stroller, to secure them in the strollers with the harness, and to remove the canopy and store it separately when not in use.
Since 2009, Baby Trend claims that over a million Sit N’ Stand strollers have been sold nationwide. Baby Trend, Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walmart, Target, Kohl’s, and buybuy BABY are all places to find them.
