Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.81%
Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Metals & Mining, Materials and Resources sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.81%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Link Administration Holdings Ltd (ASX:LNK), which rose 6.27% or 0.24 points to trade at 4.07 at the close. Meanwhile, Inghams Group Ltd (ASX:ING) added 5.84% or 0.15 points to end at 2.72 and South32 Ltd (ASX:S32) was up 4.82% or 0.17 points to 3.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were EML Payments Ltd (ASX:EML), which fell 9.86% or 0.14 points to trade at 1.28 at the close. Lynas Rare Earths Ltd (ASX:LYC) declined 6.21% or 0.53 points to end at 8.00 and Pointsbet Holdings Ltd (ASX:PBH) was down 5.96% or 0.17 points to 2.68.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 739 to 563 and 364 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 4.51% to 17.97.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.30% or 5.15 to $1,741.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.54% or 0.53 to hit $99.06 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.63% or 0.63 to trade at $101.32 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.50% to 0.68, while AUD/JPY rose 0.56% to 92.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 106.86.
