Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.59%
Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Gold, Materials and Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.59%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Webjet Ltd (ASX:WEB), which rose 7.54% or 0.41 points to trade at 5.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Qantas Airways Ltd (ASX:QAN) added 7.07% or 0.36 points to end at 5.45 and Resolute Mining Ltd (ASX:RSG) was up 5.33% or 0.02 points to 0.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bank Of Queensland Ltd. (ASX:BOQ), which fell 6.33% or 0.54 points to trade at 7.99 at the close. Zip Co Ltd (ASX:Z1P) declined 4.65% or 0.06 points to end at 1.23 and Ingenia Communities Group (ASX:INA) was down 3.42% or 0.17 points to 4.80.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 863 to 553 and 429 ended unchanged.
Shares in Zip Co Ltd (ASX:Z1P) fell to 52-week lows; falling 4.65% or 0.06 to 1.23. Shares in Ingenia Communities Group (ASX:INA) fell to 52-week lows; down 3.42% or 0.17 to 4.80.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 5.46% to 12.02.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.35% or 6.90 to $1,977.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.23% or 1.28 to hit $102.97 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.11% or 1.21 to trade at $107.57 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 0.74, while AUD/JPY fell 0.38% to 93.24.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 99.64.
