Audi factory in Mexico raises wages to avoid strike
Budrigannews.com – One of the highest automaker wage increases in Mexico in recent years has been agreed upon by Audi’s Mexico unit and worker representatives for 2023, preventing a strike.
In the past, the Independent Union of Audi Mexico Workers (SITAUDI) and Audi negotiated two wage increases for the 4,000 unionized workers at the plant in the central state of Puebla. In December, workers rejected both options.
The new agreement eliminated the option for a series of salary increases from 2023 to 2026 and replaced the proposal for an 8.4% pay increase this year.
The 9.4% increase surpasses Volkswagen’s most recent agreement (ETR:). in Mexico for this year’s 9% wage increases, which also came after workers rejected earlier proposals.
SITAUDI stated in a statement that the revised agreement “gives certainty and stability to the workers and their families.”
Tuesday evening, Audi stated that the company placed a high priority on the workers’ ability to maintain their financial stability and that it had prevented a planned Wednesday strike.
