Budrigannews.com – The head of Israel’s military on Wednesday guaranteed credit for a new air strike on an escort that had entered Syria from Iraq, saying the objective was a truck conveying weaponry.
Lieutenant-General Aviv Kohavi appeared to be referring to an attack on Nov. 8 that, according to Iraqi officials at the time, resulted in the destruction of two fuel trucks. However, he did not specify a date for the event and stated that it had only occurred “several weeks ago.”
“We might not have known that among the 25 trucks (in the convoy), that was the truck – truck number eight – that was the truck with the arms,” Kohavi stated at a conference hosted by Reichman University. “We might not have known that among the 25 trucks (in the convoy), that was the truck.”
“The pilots had to be sent there as well. They needed to know how to avoid the ground-to-air missiles,” he continued, implying that piloted jets were utilized for the far-off mission. The Nov. 8 strike had been attributed to a drone, according to officials in Iraq.
Israel has been targeting suspected Iranian-sponsored weapons transfers and personnel deployments in Syria’s neighbor for nearly a decade. Israeli officials have rarely taken credit for particular operations.
The air strike on Nov. 8 was said to have killed two Syrian nationals, according to a regional official affiliated with Iran. Iranian casualties were not reported to officials at the Iraqi-Syrian border.
