Attack on prison in Mexican city of Juarez more than 10 dead
Budrigannews.com – On Sunday, authorities in the northern border city of Juarez reported that at least 14 people were killed in an armed attack on a prison and that two more were killed in a subsequent armed attack elsewhere in the city.
In a statement, the Chihuahua state prosecutor stated that the prison attack resulted in the deaths of 10 security guards and four inmates, injured 13 others, and at least 24 escaped.
Who was behind the attack was not immediately clear.
The attackers arrived at the prison around 7 a.m. local time in armored vehicles and opened fire, according to the prosecutor.
Authorities had reported a nearby assault on municipal police minutes earlier. A truck was seized and four men were captured after a chase.
Two more drivers were killed later that day in a different area of the city as a result of what the authorities described as an armed attack.
The state investigator didn’t determine whether the three episodes were connected.
After a prison standoff between members of two rival cartels led to a riot and shootouts that resulted in the deaths of 11 people, the majority of whom were civilians, hundreds of Mexican soldiers were dispatched to Juarez in August.
