Smartphone users migrating from Android to iOS has increased over the last four years, with Apple devices now accounting for over half of all U.S. smartphones used, surpassing Android.
That’s according to data from Counterpoint Research, who said Apple’s hardware “gains continue to fuel service revenues through services like the App Store, Apple TV+, Apple Music, and Apple Pay.”
Apple surpassing 50% marks its highest market share point since the iPhone was first released, and the first time its iPhone active installed base in the U.S. market has been over 50%. It climbed above the level in the second quarter of this year.
“In Q2 2022 Apple now accounts for more than half of the active smartphone installed base in the U.S. market. We have seen continued strong Android to iOS migration over the last four years. This is a big achievement for Apple,” stated Counterpoint Research.
In data reported to the Financial Times this week, Counterpoint revealed that the numbers are based on smartphones in use, otherwise known as the “active installed base,” and is said to be a more meaningful measurement than new iPhone shipments.
On Wednesday, in a note to clients on Apple’s upcoming event where it is expected to present its new iPhone 14, a BofA analyst urged investors in a note to focus on product, pricing, and timing.
“iPhone pricing is the main focus item for investors followed by timing and cadence of the launch and any news on pricing/bundling,” said the analyst. “Apple saw strong iPhone 13 demand in F3Q, and we expect to similar trends for the iPhone 14 line-up, further fueled by buy-now/pay later and installment plans,” he wrote in a client note.
Apple shares (NASDAQ:AAPL) declined 1% Friday and are down more than 12% in 2022.
