Angelina Jolie will not help refugees and leaves UN
Budrigannews.com – The United Nations announced on Friday that Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie will step down from her position as special envoy for the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR). However, she will continue to be an activist for humanitarian causes.
During her 21 years with UNHCR, Jolie has completed more than 60 field assignments. She has stated that she wants to continue working with refugees outside of the global organization.
In a statement announcing her departure, Jolie stated, “I will continue to do everything in my power in the years to come to support refugees and other displaced people.”
She stated, “I feel it is time for me to work differently, engaging directly with refugees and local organizations, and supporting their advocacy for solutions.” After twenty years working within the UN system, she added.
Since 2012, Jolie has served as UNHCR’s special envoy.
She met with displaced people in Yemen and Ukraine this year.
She was thanked by Filippo Grandi, the U.N. high commissioner for refugees, for her service, dedication, and the difference she has made for refugees and people forced to flee.

“I appreciate her desire to shift her engagement and support her decision,” Grandi stated. “After a long and successful time with UNHCR.” I am certain that she will devote the same level of enthusiasm and focus to a broader humanitarian portfolio as she did to the refugee issue.
According to the UNHCR, the number of people driven from their homes by violence, conflict, and persecution has never been higher. It estimates that over 100 million people worldwide are currently displaced.
