Budrigannews.com – Over the Christmas holiday weekend, a major winter storm snarled airport operations all over the country, resulting in thousands of flight cancellations and delays, as well as long lines and lost luggage.
According to flight tracking website FlightAware, airlines had canceled over 2,500 flights early on Monday, continuing the travel disruptions. Southwest Airlines (NYSE:) suffered the most. with approximately 1,700 cancellations, whereas Delta Air Lines Inc. over 250 cancellations were made.
FlightAware revealed that as of the early afternoon, there had been over 4,500 delays on flights within, into, or out of the United States.
Kyle Goeke, a 29-year-old customer of Alaska Airlines, stated that the airline had canceled his flight from Seattle to Missoula that was scheduled for early Monday and that the next available flight was on Wednesday.
He said he hadn’t slept all night as he was making plans for his stay in Seattle after arriving in Seattle late on Sunday from Washington, D.C.
He told Reuters, “Fortunately, I have a friend here in this city to help me out, many others are just left alone.”
In an effort to obtain a response from airlines, customers took to social media to voice their dissatisfaction.
Sharp, David (OTC:) tweeted that his Southwest Airlines flight from Denver to St. Louis had been canceled, and that the next available flight would be two days later. He said he’d rent a car and drive to where he wanted to go.

On Monday, Southwest Airlines stated that it was “doing its best” to restore its network to normal following the storm and that it was receiving a significant number of calls from customers asking about their travel plans.
“My brothers’ Southwest Airlines flight from Philadelphia to El Paso was canceled today, and the only option they had was to fly on Tuesday morning out of Baltimore! Alex Gervasi, another Twitter user, tweeted, “Nothing anyone could do but so much travel insanity.”
Local media reported that some passengers were unable to locate their luggage after two days in the baggage claim at Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport.

On Twitter, Madeline Howard, who had not received her luggage, stated that Southwest Airlines had already informed her that the luggage was traveling to a different airport despite the fact that her flight had been canceled.
