Amazon closes in India
Budrigannews.com – A day after announcing the end of its online learning platform for Indian high school students, Amazon Inc. said on Friday that it would close a food delivery business it was testing in India.
It stated that Amazon Food, a business the company was testing in the Indian city of Bengaluru in the south, would be discontinued.
A spokesperson for the business stated to Budrigannews “We have made the decision to discontinue Amazon Food” as part of the annual operating planning review process.
“These decisions are not taken lightly by us.To take care of our existing partners and customers, we are gradually ending these programs.”
A communication from the company to its restaurant partners was cited in an earlier report by The Economic Times, which stated that the company would cease operations on December 29.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Amazon announced on Thursday that it was discontinuing the Amazon Academy platform in India, which had been launched at the beginning of the year.
According to a report published last week by Reuters, the e-commerce giant plans to lay off approximately 10,000 employees in roles related to technology and corporate operations as a result of a review of its global workforce brought about by the uncertain macroeconomic environment.
