Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 1.70%

Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the rose 1.70% to hit a new 5-year high.

The best performers of the session on the were Daikin Industries, Ltd. (TYO:), which rose 6.75% or 1,975.00 points to trade at 31,240.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Advantest Corp. (TYO:) added 5.93% or 1,135.00 points to end at 20,285.00 and Z Holdings Corp (TYO:) was up 5.25% or 18.20 points to 364.60 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TYO:), which fell 1.34% or 27.00 points to trade at 1,986.00 at the close. J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (TYO:) declined 0.76% or 10.50 points to end at 1,368.00 and Keio Corp. (TYO:) was down 0.75% or 34.00 points to 4,489.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2734 to 924 and 209 ended unchanged.

Shares in Daikin Industries, Ltd. (TYO:) rose to all time highs; gaining 6.75% or 1,975.00 to 31,240.00. Shares in Advantest Corp. (TYO:) rose to all time highs; up 5.93% or 1,135.00 to 20,285.00. Shares in Keio Corp. (TYO:) fell to 52-week lows; losing 0.75% or 34.00 to 4,489.00.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.99% to 19.11 a new 1-month low.

Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.55% or 0.39 to $70.25 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.50% or 0.38 to hit $75.03 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.33% or 6.30 to trade at $1,923.10 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.30% to 144.76, while EUR/JPY unchanged 0.00% to 157.50.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 102.86.
