The incident that occurred while American Airlines Flight 3408, an Embraer E175, was parked at the gate following its arrival from Dallas will be the subject of an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board. According to two people briefed on the situation, the employee died in an accident involving a running engine, according to the initial investigation.

A ground crew member for another American regional subsidiary, Piedmont Airlines, was killed, the airport stated, but provided no additional details.
American released a statement expressing its grief over the incident, which it confirmed involved a Piedmont employee.
The airline declined further comment on the ongoing investigation, stating, “We are focused on ensuring that all involved have the support they need during this difficult time.”
