U.S. may relax rules for obtaining asylum

Budrigannews.com – U.S. administrators, the two conservatives and liberals, on Sunday squeezed Majority rule President Joe Biden to make a move to deal with a normal flood of refuge searchers at America’s southern boundary when Coronavirus period limitations are set to end this week.

A judge in the United States moved in November to overturn a policy enacted by the Trump administration in 2020 that has allowed migration authorities to rapidly send asylum seekers back to Mexico and other countries. As a result, U.S. border cities are anticipating an influx of asylum seekers.

Prior to the end of the policy, which is known as Title 42, on December 21, thousands of asylum seekers have been queuing up at the border between the United States and Mexico.

El Paso, a border city in west Texas, declared a state of emergency on Saturday, citing the thousands of migrants being apprehended each day and hundreds of migrants sleeping outside in the cold.

On CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Republican U.S. Representative Tony Gonzales of Texas stated, “It’s a very dire situation.”

Gonzales urged Biden to reintroduce previous policies that aimed to accelerate deportations and asylum reviews.

Biden was urged to implement a policy requiring people to only request asylum at official border crossing points by Democrat U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar of Texas.

Cuellar stated to “Face the Nation,” “And if they don’t follow that pathway, they need to go back.”

In their campaigns for the midterm elections in 2022, Republicans emphasized calls for stricter immigration policies.

Some Republican lawmakers are calling for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for what they see as a failure of border policy under Biden after winning a narrow majority in the U.S. House of Representatives in November.

On Sunday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott told ABC News that the end of Title 42 would result in “total chaos.” He is one of the most outspoken Republican advocates for tighter border control.

The Biden administration has refuted claims that ending Title 42 amounted to opening U.S. borders to illegal immigrants, despite Gonzales, a Republican lawmaker, stating that America was set to receive a “hurricane of migrants.”

On “Face the Nation,” an aide to the White House, Keisha Lance Bottoms, stated, “These aren’t people who are attempting to illegally cross the border.” These individuals are presenting themselves and requesting that they be dealt with in accordance with American law.”

More Risk of criminal prosecution of Trump is growing

Even within his own party, pressure appeared to be mounting on the Biden administration. U.S. Representative Joe Manchin, a moderate leftist, likewise showing up on “Face the Country,” encouraged Biden to request an expansion of Title 42.

Manchin stated, “The president needs to find a way.”
