Twitter blocks journalists for criticizing Musk

Budrigannews.com – On Friday, the German Foreign Office sent out a tweet with screenshots of the Twitter accounts of journalists whose accounts had been suspended, alerting the platform that the ministry was having issues with actions that threatened press freedom.

Twitter suspended the records of a few noticeable writers who had posted about its new proprietor Elon Musk, provoking fights from their media associations.

The ministry wrote on its official Twitter account, “Press freedom cannot be turned on and off at will.” The journalists below cannot now comment on, follow, or criticize us. That is a problem for us, @Twitter.”

Government agencies in Germany are already being urged by regulators to stop sending announcements only to privately owned platforms and to look into alternatives like Mastodon, a new decentralized social media network.

Later, a government spokesperson told a regular news conference that the government was increasingly concerned about what was happening on the Twitter platform.

Twitter additionally suspended the Mastodon organization’s record and endeavors to connection to Mastodon accounts in tweets regularly set off blunder messages on Friday.

On Friday morning, the number of new user registrations for Mastodon reached as high as 4,000 per hour—four times the rate of the previous week. However, Mastodon is still a small player in comparison to Twitter, which has half a billion users, with just 8.5 million registered users.

In response to questions regarding the journalists’ suspensions, a spokesperson for British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated that social media platforms had to strike a balance between user safety and the preservation of free speech.
