Russian troops kidnapped employees of a nuclear power plant-Ukraine
Budrigannews.com – On Friday, the atomic power agency of Ukraine said that Russian forces had taken two senior Ukrainian employees from a nuclear power station that was under Russian control and held a third.
According to Energoatom, the two people who were taken into custody at the Zaporizhzhia plant in the southeast of Ukraine were beaten before being driven away on Thursday in an “unknown direction.”
It stated that the detained third worker was in charge of safety at the plant, which was taken over by Russian troops shortly after their February 24 invasion of Ukraine but is still run by Ukrainian employees.
Kyiv has asserted that Russia compelled Ukrainian workers at the plant to sign contracts with the Russian nuclear energy company.

It stated in a statement, “Through such actions, the occupiers are trying to gain loyalty from the courageous pro-Ukrainian staff… However, the invaders fail to do so because the personnel resist.”
More than three decades after the world’s worst atomic accident at Chornobyl, also in Ukraine, each side has accused the other of shelling the site of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, raising fears of a nuclear disaster.
By the end of the year, the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), hopes to establish a safety zone around the nuclear power plant.
The plant and all Ukrainian employees were transferred from Energoatom to Rosatom, a subsidiary of Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation, by presidential decree in October. Kyiv claimed that the transfer of assets was theft.
Additionally, according to Ukrainian officials, Moscow is utilizing the location as a de facto weapons depot. The allegations have not been independently verified by Reuters.
