Court rejected WhatsApp complaint against EU Council
Budrigannews.com – According to a statement released on Wednesday, the European Union Court of Justice ruled that WhatsApp’s lawsuit against a European Data Protection Board decision was inadmissible.
The Irish Data Protection Commission imposed 225 million euros in fines and corrective measures on Whatsapp in 2021 in response to complaints and a ruling by the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) regarding the company’s use of personal data in Ireland.
WhatsApp had appealed that decision to a court in Ireland and asked the European Court of Justice to overturn the EDPB’s decision. However, the court ruled that WhatsApp’s action was inadmissible. It also said that a national court could challenge the EDPB’s decision’s validity.
