89 Russian servicemen were killed on New Year’s Eve
Budrigannews.com – The Ukrainian attack on Makiivka in the Moscow-controlled parts of the Donetsk region, according to Russia’s defense ministry on Wednesday, resulted in the deaths of 89 service members, and the primary cause of the attack was the troops’ unauthorized use of mobile phones.
In a statement, the ministry stated, “It is already obvious that the main reason for what happened was the switching on and massive use – contrary to the prohibition – by personnel of mobile phones in a reach zone of enemy weapons.”
“The enemy was able to track and determine the soldiers’ location for a missile strike due to this factor.”
Russian nationalists and some lawmakers have expressed their displeasure with the military strategy employed in Makiivka following the strike that occurred just after midnight on New Year’s Day at a school that had been converted into military quarters. In the past, Russia stated that 63 Russian soldiers had been killed.
The guard service said four rockets from the U.S.- made HIMARS launchers hit the structure, adding that “from the explosion of the warheads of the HIMARS rockets, the roofs of the structure fell.”
The service included in its proclamation the Wire informing application that a commission is exploring the conditions of the assault.
In addition, the ministry suggested that in return, it would launch air strikes against a “hardware concentration” near the Druzhkivka railway station in Donetsk, resulting in the deaths of up to 200 Ukrainian personnel, the destruction of four HIMARS launchers, and the destruction of over 800 rockets.
An aide to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, said on Tuesday that the attack on Druzhkivka, which destroyed an ice hockey arena, left two people injured.
